Privacy policy

Scaile ("Scaile", "we", "us") is the fractional CMO practice of Guy Miotke, 100 W College Ave, Floor 3, Appleton, WI 54911. We decide how the information described here is used. This policy covers scaile.me and the business conversations that start here. I run marketing for a living, so I'd rather tell you exactly how this site measures things than bury it in legalese.

The short version

• This site uses its own first-party analytics. It sets no analytics cookies and doesn't store your IP address.
• We use that information to understand which pages help people, and which businesses are finding us.
• We may use business data enrichment services to add publicly available company information to visits and inquiries.
• We don't sell your personal information, and we don't use it for targeted advertising.
• You can turn analytics off at any time, and we automatically honor the Global Privacy Control signal.

Information we collect automatically

When you visit, our own analytics records basic information about the visit and stores it in a database we control. It isn't sent to an advertising network:

• Usage: pages viewed, the page that referred you, campaign tags in the link (such as UTM parameters), and interactions like clicking "Book a call", following a link to another site, finishing the Scale Check (only your score is recorded, not your answers), or running one of the free scans.
• Device: device type (mobile or desktop) and browser details (the "user agent").
• Approximate location and network: city, region and country, plus the name of the network you connect through. On a business connection that's often your employer's name. These come from your connection at the moment of the visit; we don't collect precise location.

How we count visits without cookies: we create a short, one-way code from your connection details that changes every day. It can't be reversed to reveal who you are, and we don't keep your IP address. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) necessarily processes your IP address to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.

Cookies and similar technology: we don't set analytics or advertising cookies. If you turn analytics off, we store that choice in your browser's local storage so we can remember it. If you arrive through a link with campaign tags, we keep those tags in your browser's session storage until you close the tab, so that a call you book is credited to the right campaign. The site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address and browser details when delivering them, under Google's privacy policy.

Information you give us

If you book a call, you do it through Calendly, which collects what you enter (such as your name, email and company) under Calendly's privacy policy and shares it with us. If you email us, we receive what you send. We use it to respond, run the conversation you asked for, provide services, and keep records of our business relationship.

The free scans: when you scan a website at scaile.me/scan or trace a landing page at scaile.me/funnel, we read that site's public pages and public DNS records. We never submit a form on it. We store the address you entered, the results, and the same anonymous visit details described above. We don't ask for your name or email to run it. We use scan records to understand which kinds of companies use the tool and to follow up with businesses that may benefit from our services.

Business data enrichment

Scaile works with businesses, so it helps to understand which companies are interested in what we do. We may use trusted third-party data services that match visits and inquiries to publicly available business information: a company's name, industry, size, location and website, and in some cases professional contact details the person or company has already made public (for example, a business email or a LinkedIn profile). Enrichment providers draw on public web sources, company registries and professional data they license.

We use enriched information only to understand our audience, follow up with businesses that may benefit from our services, and prepare for conversations. We don't use it to make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects on you. We require providers to handle data lawfully and to use what we share only to provide their service to us.

How we use information

• To operate, secure and improve the website, and to understand which content is useful.
• To respond to you, schedule and prepare for calls, and deliver services you request.
• To reach out to businesses that may benefit from our services, in a way that's relevant and easy to decline.
• To keep business records, comply with the law, and protect our rights and the site's security.

For visitors in places that require a legal basis (such as the UK or EU), we rely on our legitimate interests in running and growing a business-to-business practice, on performing a contract or taking steps you ask for, and on legal obligations. Where the law requires consent, we'll ask for it.

Who we share it with

We share information only with:

• Service providers who help us run the business: website hosting (Cloudflare), scheduling (Calendly), email (Google Workspace), and the data enrichment services described above. They may use it only to provide their services to us.
• Authorities or other parties when the law requires it, or to protect rights, safety and security.
• A buyer or successor if the business is sold or reorganized, under this policy's protections.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral (targeted) advertising. We haven't done either in the past 12 months.

Your choices

• Turn off analytics in this browser: turn analytics off · turn it back on. We automatically honor the Global Privacy Control signal as an opt-out.
• Marketing email: every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and we honor it promptly.
• Enrichment: to ask us not to enrich or keep information about you, email info@scaile.me with the subject "Privacy request".

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas, Oregon and other US states, or the UK and EU), you may have the right to:

• Know and access the personal information we hold about you, and get a copy.
• Correct information that's inaccurate.
• Delete information about you, subject to legal exceptions.
• Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, targeted advertising, and profiling with significant effects (we don't do these, but you can still make the request).
• Appeal if we decline your request. Reply to our decision with the subject "Appeal" and we'll review it and explain the outcome.
• Not be treated differently for using any of these rights.

How to make a request: email info@scaile.me with the subject "Privacy request", or write to the address below. We'll confirm we received it, may need to verify your identity (usually by confirming details you've given us), and will respond within 45 days, or tell you if we need more time as the law allows. You can use an authorized agent; we'll ask for proof that they're allowed to act for you. We don't collect sensitive personal information (like government IDs, financial account details, health data or precise location) through this site.

If you're in the UK or EU, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.

How long we keep it

• Website analytics and attribution scan records: up to 24 months, then deleted.
• Enriched business information about people we never do business with: up to 24 months, or sooner if you ask.
• Client and business records: for the relationship, plus as long as tax, legal and accounting rules require.

Security and where data is stored

We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and access limited to the people who need it. No website or system is perfectly secure. If a problem affects your information, we'll notify you as the law requires. Our providers store data in the United States. If you visit from another country, your information will be processed in the US.

Links to other sites

This site links to other websites, such as Calendly and LinkedIn. Their privacy practices are their own, so please read their policies.

Some pages show videos hosted on YouTube. Until you press play, you see only a still image served by this site, and nothing is loaded from YouTube. When you press play, the video loads from YouTube's privacy-enhanced domain (youtube-nocookie.com), and YouTube handles that viewing under Google's privacy policy. We record only that a video was played, in the same cookieless way as the rest of our analytics.

Children

This site is for businesses and professionals. It isn't directed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
